Modern eco home remodelling

It’s probably fair to say that 1970s houses aren’t many people’s favourite architecture but they do offer a great template for remodelling and that’s what we have been asked to do for this suburban detached 70’s home. Our clients didn’t want the same old solution and desired something more unique and striking, but on a budget. Whilst timber cladding and render are pretty standard fare these days, for this scheme we’ve used dark grey render paired with a mix of natural and charred timber cladding fixed in varying applications giving depth and texture. Allied with corrugated metal roofing the contemporary design features a double height entrance gallery bathed in daylight that links the main original volume with a new smaller yet similar form. Designed with a mind for new volumes to be constructed from modern methods of construction (MMC) using off site fabrication and with a host of improvements to the existing construction the project should score well on energy efficiency and sustainability measures. Planning has been submitted for this home fit for the 21st century.
